Last Updated on Thursday, 29 July 2010 23:26 Written by Erik M. Dell Thursday, 29 July 2010 23:20

Draft:                    #1

Position:              1

Host:                     Fanball $10

Date:                     July 25th

I won’t be analyzing every draft. But you can visit www.babybluemonkey and see all my drafts and the results. At the top of every page will be the numerical draft as it pertains to my first draft being #1. Other information will include the host of the draft and the dollar amount, the date of the draft, and what position I drafted in. While not the same as a mock draft this should at least give you an idea of what round players are getting drafted.

I settled down and loaded up the Fanball site and immediately thought it was a good omen for the season when I scored the #1 pick. I had my last second twinge as I picked

An Overview on fantasy football terminology

Whether you are a journeyman that has been playing for 15 years or this is your first fore ray into the world of fantasy football, you are bound to come across a term that baffles you. It’s hard not as fantasy football has evolved from garage drafts to having its own show on Sunday morning ESPN. The growth is astonishing and a projected 30 million people will be playing fantasy football in 2010. Think about that for a minute. Explosion is the only way to define that.

Speaking of definitions. Here is a glossary of definitions for you to grasp the game better and understand what’s going on when someone mutters “I can’t believe that guy took my handcuff, MarShawn Lynch isn’t even on the ADP list. In fact www.babybluemonkey.com says Lynch is going to be a bust and not a deep sleeper, Oh well, guess I’ll grab Donald Brown instead.”

Take a second to thumb through the alphabetically organized 2010 fantasy football dictionary.

Auction Drafts – These drafts are gaining popularity where league members have a predefined cash amount for the draft, typically $100. The league then auctions off the players and the highest bidder wins that player. This format is gaining popularity because it gives everyone in the league a chance to own any player.

Average Draft Position (ADP) – Usually this list pops up around the beginning of June and is constantly updated on several fantasy football sites. ADP is where a certain player will be ranked over all the drafts that have taken place at one site or multiple sites. For example: NFFC’s ADP

2010 Fantasy Football Do's and Don'ts

Last Updated on Thursday, 29 July 2010 19:49 Written by Erik M. Dell Tuesday, 06 July 2010 16:43

The months have melted into weeks and soon the weeks will give way to days. These days will be painful as we countdown to Thursday September 9th when the Minnesota Vikings take on the defending NFL champs, the New Orleans Saints. That’s right, the 2010 fantasy football season is right around the corner! By now you should have your cheat sheets in order and your sleepers well thought out. Some of you have started drafting while others will be waiting till the end of August or later. To help you in your quest to win your office pool league, your big money league, or even a just for fun league I’ve created an essential Do’s and Don’ts list for you.

DON’T

  1. Manage your teams from work – This is very important. Companies are realizing many hours lost during the work week due to people managing their teams from work. Don’t do it, you’re being watched. Trust me I’m an IT guy and you can get away with it for a little bit but eventually someone is going to figure out why everyone at work is pinging www.babybluemonkey.com and then the site will be blocked or you will be reprimanded. It’s not worth it.
  2. Bite off more than you can chew – Some crazy people run 10, 20, or even 50 leagues in a season. That’s fine but make sure you can handle the load because each team will require a little quality time to make them competitive.
  3. Miss the games – You don’t have to watch every game but

Fantasy Football 2010: 10 Steps to drafting a winning team

Last Updated on Wednesday, 09 June 2010 01:38 Written by Erik M. Dell Monday, 07 June 2010 01:24

The simple easy definition of Fantasy Football is: the simulation of a team of players you drafted using real-time stats. Like everything else in America, Fantasy Football requires practice in order to gain a competitive advantage. After a few years of playing in many different leagues (I had over 40+ individual leagues during the 2009 season) I’ve decided I have a few draft strategies that spell out success when you are trying to win. I’ve played exclusively draft and play leagues so I won’t be covering rotisserie style or emphasizing 12 team leagues as the majority I play are ten team leagues. No keeper hints and no I won’t tell you who to take in the 3rd round (at least not yet)…

1) Attend your draft – I can’t tell you the exact number of leagues where at least one person didn’t show up but I would guess around 90% of my 2009 leagues had at least one person missing. Sure you can fill out your draft order ahead of time but I’m a firm believer in watching how other people in your league stack up and draft. And the missing guy ended up taking Stephen Gostkowski in the 7-9th rounds. You may think this isn’t a big deal but those same people missed out on Thomas Jones, Cedric Benson, and Miles Austin to name a few.

2) Mock draft at least once prior to your real draft – Like I said before: practice makes perfect. This may seem like a stupid idea but in the

Off Season Moves

While the NFL is plenty busy, between Free Agency & the upcoming draft, Fantasy stories worth discussing are harder to come by. Still, we have had some evolutions take place that will affect the 2010 Fantasy season. There has been no shortage of reminders that top line Fantasy numbers are finite. Several players key to recent success have been shown the door.

LT wasn’t brought back, as a Charger. Thomas Jones, despite a statistically successful ’09 campaign, wasn’t retained. Westbrook has gone from being the engine of the Eagle attack, to out of work & out of the off-season discussion. T.O. can still contribute to an NFL team & really wasn’t even that much of a pariah last season, in Buffalo. He’s still on the market.

It can be explained that the lack of a labor deal has some teams moving more judiciously. No doubt things will heat up as the
